FAQs

What is Bright Smiles?

Bright Smiles is an innovative new national pilot program that will tackle the dental health problems of children in need. It has two key goals:

  1. To bring together kids in need with volunteer dentists for free dental treatment.
  2. To educate the community about the prevention of dental disease.

The program will do this by promoting 4 steps to a lifelong smile - brushing, flossing, rinsing and regular dental check ups.

Colgate will work with the help of private dental practitioners and Bright Smiles supporters to address the dental health of children whose families have limited access to care.

The program was launched as a part of Colgate’s Oral Health Month August 2008.

I’m a dentist - how do I get involved?

The success of the program relies on dentists signing up to give a child a smile, so we need your support. The level of commitment is entirely up to you. Please click here for more information and to register.

If you require further information please email info@brightsmiles.net.au or call 02 9818 0949.

How do I get my child into the program?

Once a dentist volunteers their time for the program, ‘Bright Smiles’ will liaise with The Salvation Army who will identify a child in need of treatment. The children nominated will be existing clients who are being case managed by The Salvation Army.

The program does not accept nominations directly from the public. However, Woman's Day is running a special ‘Bright Smiles’ initiative where members of the public can nominate a child who is already on the public waiting list. 5 children from this list will be chosen for treatment by voluntary dentists. For more details, visit the Woman's Day website.

How can I find out more information?

Journalists with media enquiries should call Julie Llambias on 02 9818 0931 or e-mail info@brightsmiles.net.au

PLEASE NOTE:  As this is a pilot program aimed at recruiting dentists to help children in need, we are not in a position at this time to respond to questions directly from the public.
